President's Message
“There are two ways to spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.”
Edith Wharton
Greetings!
We are all in different stages of our life with varying amounts of time and resources. It’s a fact that we can’t all be the primary source of energy that leads this organization into the next year, but we can all participate in making it shine brighter than ever before. There are no small gifts—no small contributions! Whether it’s spending a few minutes to clean up after a meeting or representing the Association as a delegate, your participation matters and is greatly appreciated.
This year there will be ample opportunity to let our light shine by helping the following groups in our community (many donations require no money, just cleaning out our closet or pantry)
Our Mother’s Home—Teenage mother’s and their children are given shelter, taught life skills so they can be independent.
Abuse Counseling and Treatment (ACT) shelter—houses abuse victims and their children, provides counseling, and helps them start over.
Head Start--School readiness program for low-income children and their families.
By visiting the calendar on this website you will find information when you can bring items that will be delivered to the appropriate agency.
Another important group for our association to be actively involved are the students at the Edison College dental hygiene program. Programs have been implemented to inform the students about their professional organization. The November continuing education meeting provides us information on various topics presented by the sophomore dental hygiene students. The past two years the students have impressed us with their knowledge and poise on topics that either gave us a review or enlightened us.
This year will provide you with 14 hours of continuing education plus CPR renewal. I invite you to come to each meeting that promises to be fun, informative, and hopefully renew your enthusiasm for a wonderful profession. Make the choice to do something small that will benefit others. Hygienists are a unique set of individuals who are smart, creative, caring, and love attention to detail. Celebrate your abilities with your peers.
